A woman was killed and three others injured following a car crash early today.

The woman, who is understood to be Leslie Jordan, was driving a car that crashed into a barrier outside of Liverpool John Moores University.

The 23-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene and police confirmed that the driver of the white Honda CR-V was also killed.

A friend of Jordan’s from nearby Liverpool, Michael Tonge, said: ‘It’s horrible. I feel so so sad and it’s hard to believe she is gone.

‘We are just so shocked. It’s horrendous. You never want to see someone die.’

Tonge added: ‘We have to have some kind of support on the funeral.

‘We are just trying to help the family, and of course we are devastated.’

Jordan, who studied English Literature at Liverpool John Moores, had been due to return to the city on Friday.

Liverpool City Council said Jordan had been living in the local area for the past seven months.

In a statement, the council wrote: ‘Leslie Jordan, who attended Liverpool John Moores University, was tragically killed when her car collided with a barrier outside the University’s car park in Walton Street on Friday, 5 August this year.

‘The deceased was a student at Liverpool John Moores University and was returning from a study trip when the incident occurred.

‘Police officers and paramedics attended the scene, and conducted their enquiries as a result of which the driver, a 23-year-old man from North Wales, was found dead of a head injury.

‘The coroner’s report will be released later this year.’
