CNN interviewed Serena Williams when she was 9. Here’s what she said about her mother’s health:

In the beginning [of the interview], we were talking about who my mother is, who my mom is. And then she said, “My mother is, you know, I’m not going to die in this room right now. I just want to get out of the room. I want to get out of the room.” Then, she started crying, because she was like, you know what, I’m in complete denial. The last thing I want to do is to be in a room with my mom, so I’m in denial and I’m crying. And I had to ask if she was happy. And she said, “Yes.” [You can here more clips here from the interview]
